Time for PD at Your School?

How much time is allocated for professional development at your school? How does your particular organization carve out time for professional development?

Not much time is allocated for PD at my school. We say we are doing PD during out Monthly staff meeting, but not much is done.

60 minutes per week and inservice at High-Tech Institute Inservices are held every three months. Each teacher has their own indivdual IEP or instructional educational plan

At one school, they have an early release and late start day dedicated to staff development, and these are once a month. At another school, they have quarterly meetings with small teams of teachers focusing on specific school goals.

We are required to participate in professional development three days a week for one hour. This time was written into the master schedule. This is a common time for all school staff members.

Our school schedules team meetings during our prep periods three times per week. Grade level meetings and house meetings are included.

there are two times a year that we have a group time for staff development. It's 3 hours in the morning as a large group - then two specific breakout sessions of about 1 hour each in the afternoon. So I guess that's about 12 hours a year.
In my own department, I meet bi-weekly with my boss as well

My school allows no time in the school year for staff development. I was told when I take over at cite coordinator full time, this will be one of my responsibilities.

My school has collaborative planning that's non-negotiatable for a total of 12 hours along with 5 banking days. Other time for PD is the once a month for staff meetings/grade level mtgs. for two hours. If we have any other time is going to unlikely be unpaid.

We have weekly meetings with our learning teams. They usually last for 30 minutes, but our learning team only meets once every two weeks. This is expected to be done after school or before school.

For general professional development, we have an in-service once a month.

My organization allocates time for professional development in the following ways.

4 hours each month for all staff meetings

3 hours each week for department meetings

We try to find an opportunity for each team member to attend a conference. Due to budget constraints not everyone can attend a national conference so we rotate that option. Those not attending a national conference attend some PD opportunity closer to home.

We also have a yearly day long retreat to review the previous year and plan for the year ahead

Each teacher at St. Anthony logs over 100 hours of PD each year. We have PD before school starts, daily meetings, afterschool meetings and on planned days off.
